Whitening, veneers, all-ceramics

Tooth whitening, also called bleaching, has become a tried and tested way to lighten dark or discoloured teeth. The first step, however, is to determine the exact cause of the discoloration. Not all teeth can be successfully whitened. In principle, teeth on which a root canal has been performed (i.e. in which the nerves are dead) as well as healthy teeth, of course, can be whitened. The method is most suited to teeth with no fillings at all or with fillings that are hardly visible to other people. Tooth-coloured fillings made of plastic or ceramic, for example, cannot be whitened with the help of bleaching material and may need to be replaced. The result is impressive and usually lasts around 2 years. The whitening procedure may then be repeated if necessary.

Beautiful teeth do not always need to be a product of nature or the result of full crowns. Veneers are very thin ceramic shells that are bonded onto the outer surfaces of the teeth. In principle they are like false fingernails. Veneers can be used to perfectly correct the appearance of crooked or unsightly teeth as well as heavily filled teeth, especially in the anterior region of the mouth. Veneers can also be used to correct minor misalignments. Since veneers can be made very thin, the front side of the tooth requires only minimal grinding. The dental cost involved in such treatment is nevertheless quite high.
